Back to the old school

I've been shooting film in recent weeks, just for a change of pace and to help slow down my compositional eye. No, none of the images are worth showing publicly (yet!).

However, I did some practice product shots of two of my film cameras today using my digital gear, playing with shallow depth of field to create a dreamy look - purposefully transitioning them out of focus, but ensuring logos were identifiable. Both are natural light using the weak winter sun as a feature.

A bit too much DOF for me, I would at least get the lens in focus and let the rest develop within the viewers eyes.

Thanks all. Yes, I've probably overdone it - I just got a f1.4 lens and so, of course, I wanted to shoot at f1.4. Childish maybe, but fun

I'm happy with the overall look, although in hindsight it wouldn't have made much difference to the bokeh if I'd shot at, say, f2.8 because the background was so far away. However I just printed the first image, and the print lacks contrast (printed at a high street photo lab so it may be them more than me). This is such a basic observation but I'm doing more printing these days and finding the differences between what works on screen and what works on paper or canvas is a whole new learning curve...
