I have been into birds all my life, but I had not realized that Mute Swan parents drove the cygnets away. Perhaps it is because we are used to seeing them still on the same lake. I seem to recall that Whooper Swan cygnets accompany the parents on migration, perhaps to learn the way. This may have coloured my interpretation of Mute Swans.

The pond where these swans reside is a fairly small pond and in the last 3 years only one pair of swans ( I believe the same pair) have returned and bred here.
