    LOL

I must confess I have learnt too.

I didn't ask, but I was thinking the same as Izzie ...

Why did you name them Cob and Pen? Just curious...

    ... and now I know

I have been into birds all my life, but I had not realized that Mute Swan parents drove the cygnets away. Perhaps it is because we are used to seeing them still on the same lake. I seem to recall that Whooper Swan cygnets accompany the parents on migration, perhaps to learn the way. This may have coloured my interpretation of Mute Swans.

Hi John, below is a link re mute swans driving off Cygnets.
    https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wi.../breeding.aspx
The pond where these swans reside is a fairly small pond and in the last 3 years only one pair of swans ( I believe the same pair) have returned and bred here.

An update on the swan family, it seems two of the four cygnets have returned to their parents after being away for five weeks or so. I did read somewhere that the parents will accept the female cygnets back but not the male cygnets.

    From Cygnets to Swans.
