    Hoarfrost Field

For the last ten or so days we had alternation between day (minus 8C) and night (minus 20C) temperatures combined with relatively humid air (humid for us) and calm wind. These conditions have led to hoarfrost forming on most surfaces. Went out on Sunday to this field where I knew the sunlight angles would work to light the area at near sunset

    Close to sunset

    Hoarfrost Field

Just as the sun was setting, the mist is starting to form as the air cools

    Hoarfrost Field

After sunset , shot from the other side and the mist getting denser. Decided to leave at this point as the temperature was dropping like a brick and I was getting chilled.

Brrrr.... and we're freezing here at zero. For those images you braved the cold and it was well worth it. Thanks for sharing and making me feel a little warmer.

Now that's a frost. 2, 1 and then 3 in that order for me Trevor. Nicely exposed for detail.

As I sit here in around 32C and high humidity those are all really refreshing Trevor.

    Great photos trevor.
Just think winter hasn't really started yet, Here in Manitoba we have had the warmest November since 1899. We are still hovering around freezing but that will soon change next week.

I would like to experience a frost like this, much less photograph it. The tones are just amazing. Consider creating more separation between the roofs and the sky in the first one.

But ours is a "dry" cold and supposedly feels less cold at any given temperature. Which is what I try to remember when my face, toes and fingers are screaming at me.

Funny to think that my relative humidity exceeded yours in image three.

I see in the fourteen day forecast a huge blob of cold air poised to sweep down over us and head your way. Ah well.

Good point about the roofs. Thought of it then went on to other things.

Hoarfrost is something we all like up here. Very pretty and christmassy. Of course, that is looking for the silver lining (coating?) to the cold

Not sure about number 1 but 2 really works for me. Frosty here in North Wexford now too but not to that extent. I like the atmosphere in 3 also.
    Wrap up well Trevor.

Oh well, that's okay then. Stop moaning!!

It's interesting how those of us in different parts of the world deal with such weather. You know it's coming and it comes every year. Does that make you more able to deal with it than me, were I to be parachuted in. For me, that counts as 'extreme', but for you it seems to be 'normal'.
