It does work and looks dangerous for what it's dripping into. You have provided a photo that makes the viewer curious as to what the tomato (I think that's what it is) is resting on and what will be the outcome. Plus, the vivid red just makes for a dynamic photo.

Background looks like a lego ground plate to me So no dripping into anything...
And indeed, selective colour works here, very well even
