    Large On1 files after processing?

    Hi guys
I`m new to dslr processing and have been trying out On1 photo 10 (prior to On1 Raw trial being released 19th Dec) I have a 27.7mb raw NEF file which I`ve just done a few adjustments on and the resulting saved PSD copy is a massive 553mb . Is this really the case with processed files or is it just related to how On1 processes them ?.
    thanks
    Steve

I would think it depends on your particular software, what changes you made, and what choices you have upon saving. I know when I save with Photoshop style software including layers adjustments creates a larger file.

It depends on what you have done with it and the number of layers etc. but that is certainly not anything that surprises me. I don't use OnOne, but the issue isn't the tool you are using, but rather the Photoshop file format and how things are stored.

I have definitely hit the 2 GB limit on some of my larger edits and had to save in Photoshop's large format (*.psb) files. When I look at some of my recent edits that use NEF files that are over 40MB (36MB sensor + overhead), the average PSD file size is generally well over 500MB.

Usually On1 Effects creates quite large files, depending on how many filters have you applied. The size would usually be in the range of 300+MB going easily into the 500 and that can add up quickly.
My way to deal with this issue was to apply the effects, save the *.jpg I needed then deleting the layer created by On1 Effects before saving the *.psd.
I would keep that layer and saving the big *.psd when I had done quite an elaborated work involving masks and such. A couple of pre-canned effects can be reapplied at any time if I need it.
I know it is not a solution to your problem but this is what On1 Effects is doing.
    Have fun.

I recently posted a thread on this topic. PSD files are the largest of the various options. If you don't care about saving edis/layers then you can set the default file type to tiff. If using On1 as an LR plug in that's not an option. You have to export to tiff and delete the PSD.
