    Skagit Valley Winter visitors

Attempts at capturing these beautiful birds (snow geese 1&2, Trumpeter swans #3- not a good focus) that "grace" our farmlands all winter. They are fascinating. Not perfect photos (focus off on a couple, et). Nothing fantastic, but wonderful practice (sitting on cold ground for an hour watching and listening). Thanks in advance for any constructive thoughts ... I'm very thick skinned, and still learning

Beautiful images and birds. That many birds must make some noise. How large is the flock.

    Thanks mad crow
more focused on camera learning curve at the moment.
There are thousands of migrating birds. They blanket the farmlands of skagit and whatcom counties.
The noise was fun, especially when they took off.

Lots of fertilizer for upcoming dafs and tulips in spring!

You did a nice job of capturing the sense of numbers and chaos of the flock, Sharon. Well done.

My bird photography started back in 2006 with snow geese in LaConner. One day shooting them and I was hopelessly hooked on shooting BIF. I need to get down there for another crack at them now that I have a better idea of what I'm doing. Well.... at least with better equipment

Sharon, lovely images. Do you think that you might crop the bottom and top of #1 to avoid some of the sky and grass areas and give this a pano effect with mostly birds?

"All the fishes of Arabian sea cannot pacify their hunger...." A giant flock of geese like this can denude a farmers field of grain in a short time. The Ducks Unlimited program purchases land and also grazing rights for ducks and geese from farmers...
