Nope just a tired old man who forgot to crop after the stack. When I noticed it I didn't think it looked that bad so I left it.

    Super shot, Brian!

Not sure I've ever seen moiré on a fly's eye before . .

What part did ImageJ play in the development, may I ask?

Not sure you are now. It is a small fly and I believe you are seeing 1/2 of the cross hatching of the compound eyes.

In Capture I Sony Pro I created 3 clones to work on carious parts of the shot. I used ImageJ to put them together with a 3D effect

Very sharp and colorful eyes I just wonder about the color difference between the body and the head .The colors don't match each other very much

    SUPERB image Brian!!!

So I have to ask, how do you get the fly or similar objects to stay still? Do you chill them, drug them or something else I haven't thought of?

I have macro lenses but have not delved into the technique, so a master class from you would be appreciated!

Patience is the first requirement for macro photography.

Some of these Robber Fly species are a little more compliant than many of the really flighty insects; but never easy.

Is there a slight blue cast to this image?

This fly and his big brother have set up residence. After almost 3 weeks of observation I agree with you the eyes don't match the body. The body is blue/grey and the eyes run the visible spectrum depending on local conditions. However the unusual green dominates.

I'm no master. But I can certainly put together an explanation of how I get what I get.

I DON'T drug or stun the beasties. I do move very slowly and let them get used to me. I also put out the same energy/emotions that I would to quiet a baby.

I may have overdone the blue in the shadows.
