Is it so worn out that it should never be used if you have a little self-respect left?
Or, is it still allowed in some kind of picture?

    A hawk-owl from a nearby forest.

I like it very much. The selective colorization you applied is what the owl's eye would look like under natural conditions, and that colorization very effectively, in my opinion, brings out the tonal gradations in the owl's feathers. Congratulations on a great image of a magnificent bird.

    Thanks Randy.
You are right. There is nothing done with the eye, it is left as is.

    Thanks for the honest opinions.
I think its interresting that its not only technical quality and composition that decides if a picture is liked or not. A picture with other things right can be discarded based on if the PP is "right" or not. I think the same myself discarding pictures with heavy hdr-effect rather quickly.

There's nothing wrong with trying to create a photo that helps others feel what you felt in the scene. I think painters call it Impressionism. And I don't think I would feel what you felt about this bird without the colored eye. It obviously caught your attention.

There are some pictures that are not good looking on selective colouring, but this one that you had chosen to share with us certainly suits this kind of processing. It brings the focus to the eyes to of the bird for sure and image so simple and yet so effective. I guess the selective colouring opponents are not in town at the moment...gone home for the holidays I thinkkkkk...

I have old eyes but I don't see a black and white shot. The owl is pale brown. And yes I like your vision.
