Þingvellir (Thingvellir) is the National Park where the Althing, an open-air assembly representing the whole of Iceland, was established in 930 and continued to meet until 1798. Over two weeks a year, the assembly set laws - seen as a covenant between free men - and settled disputes. The Althing has deep historical and symbolic associations for the people of Iceland. The property includes the Þingvellir National Park and the remains of the Althing itself: fragments of around 50 booths built from turf and stone. Remains from the 10th century are thought to be buried underground. The site also includes remains of agricultural use from the 18th and 19th centuries. The park shows evidence of the way the landscape was husbanded over 1,000 years.
Here you can see the church(rebuilt in 1859), graveyard and old parlimant buildings.

    Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
    This place truly was amazing,

Jökulsárlón, translated means ("glacial river lagoon") is a large glacial lake in southeast Iceland, on the edge of Vatnajökull National Park. Situated at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, it developed into a lake after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake has grown since then at varying rates because of melting of the glaciers. It is now 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) away from the ocean's edge and covers an area of about 18 km2 (6.9 sq. mi). It recently became the deepest lake in Iceland, at over 248 metres (814 ft), as glacial retreat extended its boundaries. The size of the lake has increased fourfold since the 1970s. It is considered as one of the natural wonders of Iceland.
These icebergs are seen in two shades: milky white and bright blue, which depends on the air trapped within the ice and is an interplay of light and ice crystals.
The black that you can see in these icebergs are layers of volcanic ash deposited from previous eruptions,

The lake can be seen from Route 1 between Höfn and Skaftafell.

Jökulsárlón has been a setting for four Hollywood movies: A View to a Kill, Die Another Day, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Batman Begins,

The tongue of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier is a major attraction for tourists.

Thanks for sharing your trip with us. Iceland is on my list of places to go before I leave the Twin Cities permanently being that it is a direct flight from here.

You've certainly hit several of the highlight areas in Iceland. I'm waiting shots from the Haukadalur Valley (Geysir) and Gullfoss as both of these sites are near Kerio and þingvellir.

We liked Iceland so much that we went back a couple of years later and got off the Ring Road to explore the interior and that was another wonderful adventure...
