You are far braver than I am, Andre. I am keeping my nose firmly indoors tonight, regardless of what is happening outside. I was planning to do some shooting on Sunday evening, but the weather forecast is not looking all that promising that day either. I was hoping to head down to Parliament Hill and shoot the sound and light show, There are fewer people out and about on Sundays and with all the snow on the ground, it should look much nicer than it did last year.

Thank you Nandakumar, John, Geoff and Maurice.

    Manfred,
It isn't a question of bravery but rather one of adequate clothing. Instead of avoiding the cold temperature, take advantage of it. The air will be clear, the crowd will be sparse and you will definitely not be bothered by mosquitoes.

I had to spend a good part of the morning outside. I think I would gladly have traded my down filled jacket for some Deep Woods Off. You are right, the crowds tend to be fairly thin on cold nights and I like the cold, crisp conditions because they give results like the one in your image here.

So beautiful and a calming scene -- I will just enjoy yours and Manfred's and Trevor's cooollllllllllddddddddddd images from the warmth of my home. Call me a chicken but I do not like the cold. Anyway...if you remove that tree in the middle of that lighted scene there, I will pretend I have seen a manger with a family there. Merry Christmas.

    Hi Izzie,

I am glad that you like my cold picture. However, I will not remove the tree because if I did so, we would both know that what looks like a manger is actually a decorated garage door. Better I leave it as is so we can pretend.
I will not call you or anybody else chicken because you don't like the cold. There are plenty of people that were born and raised in this country that, for various reasons, don't like the cold weather either. I, on the other hand, along with many others, feel lucky to live in a country with four distinct seasons and I enjoy all of them. This doesn't mean that I enjoy feeling cold. Physical activity and appropriate clothing can keep you comfortable in surprisingly cold temperatures.
Finally, I wish you and your family a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.

    Thank you Binnur.

The pink light on the snow is the glow from a string of multi-coloured Christmas lights strung on the eaves of my house. The lights are far enough from the ground for their colours to blend together by the time they illuminate the snow; in this case producing a pinkish colour.

I don't know if stringing coloured lights at Christmas time is a tradition in Turkey but if it is not, here is one example of what it looks like:

    Venus

Some people use a single colour of light per string. You also find them on trees or on elaborate lighted decorations.

    Re: Venus

Hi Andre No, we don't celebrate Christmas in Turkey. But we celebrate the New Year on the 31st of December. So, we have some lights and ornaments on the streets , in the restaurants and in the shops especially in big cities for the coming new year . Also some people have pine trees and ornaments at their home for the celebration.
