    Lines - AGO

I was playing around with Photoshop's Statistics function (under <Files> <Scripts>) and used the Median "Stack Mode" to remove most of the people in this hand-held shot where I blended three exposures together. It removed everyone except the very faint figure standing on the stairs.

The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) in Toronto, Canada seems to be one of John's favourite places to show shots from so here is one of mine showing off Toronto born architect Frank Gehry's work.

Can't claim it's my favourite place, only having managed the one visit but I wish it was. I loved the place for the open, airy, modern feel that it has apart from the exhibits.

Nicely crafted shot Manfred. Been wanting to try this technique, specifically to remove people from railway station platforms when I'm photographing steam trains. Wouldn't mind some more detail if poss.

It's fairly easy, especially if you are shooting with a tripod, otherwise the auto-align is required (I did that in this shot, as the three images were hand-held). The other reason I like using a tripod (and remote release) is that I can watch what the people on the platform are doing. I will take up to 10 shots and will make sure I get coverage in where people keep moving (if someone hasn't moved enough, the software won't take them out).

I just identify the files I am going to use and will process them identically in camera raw. The software takes psd, jpeg or TIFF formats, but will not work if you are using smart objects. Use the scripts and load the up and apply "median" for processing. Do the edits as required on the output file.

Thanks Manfred. Stored away. I don't mind the odd passenger/ Rail worker on the platform but when something interesting is due, decent viewpoints inevitably get cluttered with a gaggle of video and stills photographers (of which, I'm one of course). I have used a similar idea which involved using a tripod and photographing the empty platform before the crowd arrives, then the locomotive when it comes through. Laying and aligning the train over the empty platform allows you then to cut through to the empty platform where you want to remove something. However, since the two shots are inevitably some time apart, it only works well when the light remains reasonably consistent over the period of the two photographs. A sky full of cumulus can play havoc.
