Hi Manfred:
Absolutely excellent image, definitely worth looking at in detail!! Applause at this point!!!
One thing that tweaked my interest... There is a memorial to the dead of WWI showing 1914-18. Yet some of the memorials to the Second World War showing the dates as 1941-45. What does your memorial show?
That is what I want.
Cheers: Allan
This one says 1914 - 1918. It was dedicated in May 1939

The ones here are marked 1939-1945, a large number of the original WWI marked 1914-1918 have had WWII added to them.
Cheers: Allan
Dec.7, 1941 US declares war on Japan, a few days later Germany declares war on the US.

Absolutely, I've said the same myself, but the war began on Sept 3rd 1939. The US was involved in the war from the start, it supplied material to the Allies right from the start and US merchant ships were sunk doing so. It even began combat operations when it guaranteed the safety of shipping part way across the Atlantic in the face of the U-boat threat, and at least one US combat ship was sunk by a German torpedo before Japan attacked.
BUT let's not dwell on that, instead lets enjoy the awesome photo that Manfred has captured!
But equally well executed.
Mind you, I have had the same comment levelled at me...![]()
The composition in the first one has such nice balance between warm and cool colors. I'm exceptionally surprised at the nice play of light and shadows on urban snow.
One of the reasons I headed out to shoot last night is that a major snowfall had just ended a couple of hours earlier and a cold front had moved through to clear the skies. Fresh snow is a rare commodity in an urban environment and it gets dirty quite quickly and loses that pristine white look. Being a Sunday evening and the very cold temperatures (-22°C / -8°F) meant fewer people in cars were out messing things up.
The cold front had pushed away the cloud cover as well, and I find in an urban setting, they can act as a huge reflector and end up softening the light on the snow as well as giving a strange coloured sky, so the cold temperatures are part of the reason for this look.
So I had a nice clean white reflector of fresh snow to work with in a well lit downtown areas. Add some Christmas lights, the hard lighting at the war memorial an lots of street lighting and there are interesting colour casts and shadows in the area that were reflected off the fresh, clean snow.

Excellent pano!!!!!Its celebration!!!
Beautiful shot Manfred!
Now if you could just take this puppy back into post and get rid of all that snow, add some sand and palm trees and about 80 degrees heat I'd be a lot more comfy!
I'm freezing my caboose just looking at this!
