Winter Holiday
Happy Holidays, folks.
It's been awhile, lots of life transitions... but back into photography. I've been working on putting less into my shots. Realizing that in photography, less is more. I have to get better about looking around the frame and make compositions more essential and more pure.
Today's photo is cheating a bit. Shooting into the night sky makes it easy to have less stuff in your frame! I wanted to combine the clearly frigid snow with the warmth of the light. Evoking a little of the classic Hollywood holiday feeling. The various purple flares and halos provided a bit of a fantastical quality that was an unexpected bonus. The noise is a little high because too much reduction started to steal away the faint snowy flakes that make the image work for me.
50mm (@35mm), 1/80th sec, f/1.4, ISO1600
Olympus OM-D E-M5, Leica DG Summilux 25/f1.4
Note: Some of the dynamic resizing being done with lightbox is messing up the gradients and turning them into kind of a mess. Here's a link to a bigger copy with better compression, 2.1MB JPEG: http://eos.astramael.com/cambridgein...233393-big.jpg
Comments and criticism always welcome.

Re: Winter Holiday
Thank you all.
Don't worry, next time I won't cheat so much and will actually force myself to use judgement with the background.
