    Quidi Vidi Harbour

Quidi Vidi is a neighbourhood in the City of St John's in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The harbour is locally known as "the Gut". In the background, one of the buildings belongs to the micro-brewery, the Quidi Vidi Brewing Company who use water harvested from the icebergs that float past Newfoundland in the springtime to make one of their beers; unsurprisingly called "Iceberg".

Lovely looking place. Did you take the photograph from a wharf or do you take your camera swimming with you when it is winter?....

What a perfect harbour scene. I suppose it's very ho-hum ordinary for the people who live there and see it everyday but to fresh eyes it looks excellent.
And a great place for a brewery, I'll take a 6 pack of Iceberg please.

Looks beautiful as do your image. 6 pack for me, if its no trouble.

It's a great image, and for me the boat in the foreground makes it by giving the image depth and perspective.

    +1.

I do have two suggestions. First, I think it would help to bring up the shadows a bit. Second, I'd get rid of the house on the far right. It doesn't add, and having a bright area on the edge distracts, I think. With that done, the boat and the back end of the harbor jointly define the center. I'll past a quick edit that shows what I was thinking of--although perhaps I overdid it a bit. If you don't want edits of your images posted, let me know, and I will remove it.

Nice shot, Manfred. Dan's edited version reveals more detail. I like it.

Thanks for the suggestions Dan. Sometimes I spend so much time staring at my own shots that I miss the obvious (i.e. cropping the house on the right, even though the distraction was staring at me the whole time). I had already done what I considered to be an aggressive lifting of the shadows, but I guess I should have pushed a bit harder.

As an aside. this shot was the last one I took on our trip and we headed straight to the St John's airport after I took it for our flight back home.

Here's the SOOC camera jpeg as a reference as to where the image started. The only PP work is converting AdobeRGB to sRGB.
