    C&C welcome.

    Week 8 of the project.
My idea for week 8 was to have a train crossing the bridge with its carriage lights in view and to have car light trails.
Below is the outcome. This image failed, only the top of the train is showing and very poor car light trails.
While I was taking some test shots, this fire engine came round the corner all lights blazing.
To good a chance to miss and got one shot off.
    Better viewed in lightbox.

Nice efforts, you can spend hours trying to achieve something usable; stick to it.

Gary, you photographed the strangest looking fire engine I've ever seen!

On a more serious note, I see a sign on the bridge suggesting that it was built in 1849. If that's what the number refers to, it is presumably one of the earlier rail bridges in the UK?

    Thanks John.
That was the first time I have tried to get a trailing light shot.

The date does indicate when the bridge was built.

Really nifty way of displaying a fire truck. I'd say it was in a hurry! Well done!

PS: As a side note, I've often wondered what others think when they see someone with a camera on a tripod setting up for a shot. I say this because I am intimidated about going into our small town to photograph some things that I want to capture. Or do others even notice what is happening?

They are usually nonchalant or interested. If interested, then I say "I am just playing" and that seems to bring my own expectations down so I can relax and play! Sometimes, when they want to know what I am photographing, I talk about what I am seeing. Whether or not that is what I am able to capture is another matter!

    Just go for it!!

Thank you for your wisdom Judith! I tend to make things more complicated than they are. I appreciate your response!

ps: Gary - I sincerely apologize for hijacking your thread.<remorseful> I do tend to ramble on sometimes.

I'm rarely keen on these long exposures. When they were something of a rarity they created a little bit of interest to me but the effect tended to get over done so I lost interest in the general principle.

However, once in a while something different comes along; like your second image. I'm not really sure what makes this one so special, possibly the curvature of the light lines or the difference in line widths? Either way, this shot does work for me.

When I first took up photography, I felt intimidated and out of my comfort zone when photographing when other people were about, and to a certain degree I still do.

I don't think there's every such thing as a failed attempt if you can learn from it. I'm sure you have a bunch of new ideas that would have spawned from your "failed" attempt - but if you were to reattempt I guess you need to find a higher position!

Agree with everyone else about the fire truck - very intriguing, especially with the lights curving around the corner as they are. Imagine if you'd had a flash as well handy to actually catch the full form of the fire truck with its trailing lights

Very interesting Shot. I have had little 'exposure' to this type of shot so can offer no useful input. But I do like Mals suggestion of adding a flash to the image, but have no idea how it would look. I think it has merit.
