    Long Exposure

I was able to shoot an image last week at last ! It was very nice to be with my camera again after months

This is actually a trial shot with my new Lee Big Stopper. I already have a B+W 10 stop ND filter, but because it is a screw in filter, it was difficult to put it on and take it off, for composing and focusing. I also didn't like the orange-brown color cast it created on my images. I use the Big Stopper with a filter holder and shooting long exposures are easier and more comfortable for me now, no problem with putting it on and taking it off . Also I like the blue color cast it creates on the images and I'm hoping to take the benefit of that blue color cast in my future images.

So , here is my trial image, I'm hoping to shoot and edit better ones in the future as I started shooting again.

    C&C appreciated

You get a whew from me, very dynamic as it has a prehistoric look to it.

Beautiful image Binnur, though I find the bright bit in the centre slightly distracting.

Thank you John That shore is full of interesting rocks. So, I'm hoping to shoot some interesting compositions there in the future.

Hi Gary. Unfortunatelly I couldn't fix that bright spot as it was impossible to recover and I know that it is distracting As I said in my first post this was a trial shot and I'm hoping to shoot and edit better ones in the near future. Thanks for looking and commenting

    Re: Long Exposure

Hi Binnur, good to see you back shooting again. I am very fond of long exposures and have been playing around with some lately. Filter wise I am in the screw on filters at this point but have made my mind up to save for the Lee system. As for your image, I do like it. I feel that you have captured just the right amount of movement without losing all the detail (although I do like the real misty look too). Looking forward to seeing more of your long exposures

Binnur, SO good to see your image returning to the forum!

Long exposures is something I would like to get into and your experience with the different filter systems will be invaluable, so keep your comments coming.

Like other posters I am full of admiration for your "trial' shot. For ME I find my eye drawn to the bright spots in the centre of the image - not necessarily a bad thing, just an observation. How long was the exposure in the end, and what level of ND did you use?

    Re: Long Exposure

Thanks for looking and commenting Rita I strongly recommend the Lee system. I also bought some Lee GND filters for my sunset shots and it is possible to use a GND filter and a ND filter on top of each other by using the filter holder. You can also buy the special 105 mm polariser and put it on top of all filters with the help of a ring. I actually bought that ring but I haven't bought the polariser yet as it is expensive I hope to buy it in the future.

Thanks for looking and liking the image

Thanks for looking and commenting Trev I'm planning to shoot only long exposures during this winter in order to get more experienced and of course I will share all of them with you in this forum. This one was a 39 sec. exposure and Lee Big Stopper is a 10 stop ND filter.

    Re: Long Exposure

Finally, Binnur, we get to see some more of your work. And what a start! I suppose the classic argument would be that the bright spot in center is distracting. But actually by drawing attention in the middle of the image it makes me keep studying. What am I looking at? Is that lava? Is this a volcano rising out of the sea? Is it fog/clouds? (rhetorical questions of course) IMO an image that keeps my attention that long and causes me to examine it closely is successful. Nicely done.

Looking forward to more photos made with your new filter set.

Great capture. Seems like a denizen of the deep is reaching beyond the surface of the water...

Nicely done Binnur, I have the Lee Big stopper and love it at the sea side, I just have to keep in mind the incoming tide that I prefer to shoot, I alos played with it in a flower show to get 'ghost' people in an image it works quite well so worth playing with

    Re: Long Exposure

    A very striking image. Beautiful.

It's not hard to get rid of the bright spot if you have photoshop. I did a very quick-and-dirty job that took literally just a minute or two, and with the original and 10 minutes, you could do it better. I just selected the spot with the quick-selection tool and used content-aware fill. It's crude, but with a bit of work, it could be done better.

    Long Exposure

It's a bit late for me--I already have a set of screw-in ND filters--but I get what you are saying about the nuisance of unscrewing the darker ones to focus. However, I was able to avoid the common problem of color casts. I have 3 and 6-stop Marumis and a 10-stop Hoya ProND, all of which are reasonably neutral (although one review of the Hoya said that it reduces sharpness more than some others).

Amen to that and also to DanK's fix, but only of course if you feel the need for a fix. Looking forward to more of your photos now that you're "back in the saddle."
