Not a CIC Competition but I'm right chuffed

This image was entered in the photo travel division of the PSA China International salon. I posted it here at CIC for comment in July 2015. Last week I was EXTREMELY excited to be notified that I had been awarded the RPS Gold for the shot.

My photo club doesn't meet for three week and I had to tell somebody

The dynamism in the shot with the flying dirt, the horse's tail and the angle its on in the turn are excellent. And you've seemingly caught the horse's eye as the rider looks to where she's going. Definitely a winner.

Thank you all. That is all there but there is something subtle about this image that makes it one of my favorites. This is a turning point in the sport, not the barrel but in the interaction between horse and rider within the context of the event.

At this point, the horse is taking care of rounding the barrel and knows that that job is just completed and looking for what's next. The rider has long (in mental and relative terms) passed the barrel and shifted her focus to the next barrel or finish line. In the next instant the rider will guide the horse to a straight gallop and the horse will see a barrel or not and prepare for the next movement.
