    I went to church today.

The Cathedral of St. Paul is a beautiful building that dominates the skyline. I stopped in for a visit the other day and took my camera.

    I went to church today.

    I went to church today.

    Please comment and critique.

Nice captures, Paul. Difficult shooting inside those cathedrals.

The perspective, detail and color in the first one are magnificent.

First one for me as well. Will the highlights on the alter pull back a bit?

The colour version is I think the stronger of the two Paul. The second just seems to lack some contrast but I could be wrong. I l suspect some people may say the the verticals need to be straightened. However they just convince me that you chose to make the image with the camera pointing upwards to capture the scene as presented here, well done.

Fantastic image, clarity, detail and DoF. It has to be the colour one.

So difficult to get shots like this. Getting perfectly positioned with the camera in exactly the right spatial orientation is hard enough and no doubt there were other people getting in the way. Also lens distortion doesn't help.
In the colour shot the altar at the bottom is level but the sides of the dome at the top appear to be crooked -leaning to the left, while the vertical line up the centre also leans left but not by as much as the dome.

But just the same it is a great shot.

Thanks for the tips and critique. I will work on the position a little more. Tomorrow i am going to the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis to get some pictures. Growing up we went to a Russian Orthodox church that was stunningly beautiful. It would have been nice to get inside with a camera but the place is gone.
