Farmer solution
Functional, minimalist and close to free method to close and latch the door. There are only some spools of baler twine and a few empty pails inside so security is not paramount. The wire through the keyhole is attached to a chunk of wood to permit the door to be pulled close.
Taken several summers ago, as evidenced by the fly. Canadian flies have more sense than to be outside at minus 22C; Canadian humans are not evolved to this point yet.

Re: Farmer solution
Nice one Trevor - I've seen this typical rural solution on rural outbuildings in other places in Canada. Security is not paramount, but closing the door and keeping it closed is.
Every time I find myself outside with a camera, in the conditions you mention, the thought "Am I having fun yet?" seems to pop into my head. Flies, mosquitoes and all those other pests seem to be smart enough to stay away from fall through to the middle of spring when the weather is more to their liking.
