Trees...

Hi everyone, these are my first trials in photographing trees....I thought B&W effects looks better than the original colors adding a dramatic effect. I would like to get knowledge about the defects these photos might be suffering, and other tips to make tree photography more beautiful...because there are plenty weird trees in my new college that I can't wait to capture...also, some general views about these images are what I am looking forward to...thanks

Nice set, the second seems out of place as the structure doesn't add anything to the composition except perhaps serving as a height indicator for the tree. You seem to be going for silhouette in each or perhaps it is because you are not aware of the direction of light or simply underexposing. Whenever concentrating on a single subject really work the subject, take your photos from different angles, use different settings. Speaking of settings, whenever you post an image for review it is good practice to include the camera settings you used, reason for doing so, and time of day. Adding the particulars of the shot reduces the amount of time you'll spend answering such questions so that other questions flow more smoothly. One other comment, your lens or internal components seem a bit dirty, you can clone out the dust spots with your editing software but will have to examine your gear to find out where the source of the smudges are. Also, if you are using multiple lenses; be careful of dust and debris when changing lenses in the field.

Thanks. The time was early morning, and images were mostly shot at higher F number to increase the depth of the field. And about those dusts in the camera, is it better to clone? Because someone told me that giving it for cleaning might damage the camera and decrease the photo quality later.

I agree with Shadowman. #2 does seem out of place in the set, but #1 and #2 are fine compositions. I would clone out the wire in #3 (bottom left). Is that a bird in the sky (upper left)?

If the smudge is on the lens then no problem. If it is internal then just be careful, some people use cleaning kit and others just a cloth.

Yeah John, it is. I waited for it to fly, but ultimately didn't come out very prominent in the frame.

It's always nice to find an interesting series Kingshuk. The highlight top left in the first image is a bit of a pull but you could tone that down a bit. I agree with John on no.2. No. 3 is a nice composition. I like the way the clouds envelop the silhouette. Lose the wire though as John R suggests.

That is definitely sensor dust, not something on the lens.

If your run your camera's cleaning cycle 5 or 6 times, it may be enough to dislodge the dust. It that doesn't work, a bulb type blower often works and that does not require any physical contact with the sensor.

I have cleaned my sensor with a dry sensor cleaning brush once and I've had my current camera since 2012. I've never done a wet clean. The sensor has a glass filter assembly on it and that is what you clean, not the sensor itself. You need to be careful, but it is not nearly as fragile as a lot of people make out.

I just use a healing brush (in Lightroom or Camera Raw) to spot clean the spots that are on any images. Its fast and easy.

I really like #1, those back lit leaves add to the image. IMO the image would look better If you could reduce the highlights on the upper left a bit
