    Southern "Piney Woods"

The so called "deep south" of the USA is covered in many places with vast forests of long leaf yellow pine. Many times these are tree farms which are planted in neat rows but in many cases they are natural forest. In my youth I spent countless hours hunting or simply wandering about in such places. It can be very disorienting to find oneself in this sort of woods. The density of the trunks limits visibility to 75m or so in any direction and on an overcast day the view in every direction is pretty much the same. Experiencing this gives one an understanding of the ages old expression, "can't see the forest for the trees".

A couple of days ago we were walking Grace down a path bordering such a forest and I attempted to capture the essence of the place as I see it in my mind's eye, trees stretching on to infinity.

    1) Endless forest.

    2) Tried to capture the shape of the trunks and texture of the bark.

This is one of those rare times I would pick black and white over colour. You got the texture right, actually you got very thing right.

Good results, I can imagine a storm approaching, the eerie silence just before the first crack of thunder.

Dan, Nicely done. I give a slight edge to the black & white version.
