I am finding that difficult too. I can get very nice shots with a telephoto, although I am having to get much closer than I originally thought.

My iPhone has a nice lens and I am experimenting with it, using a bluetooth remote. That is going quite well now that I have a reliable remote.

I think I can get my 14mm close now that I have a good remote (a Vello Free Wave) for that. It works from 320 feet away, does not need a line-of-sight, can work from indoors behind windows and even can be focused remotely before shooting.

Randy Butters, that sounds like a good solution, have you any to show I would to see them.
