Very nice shots Maurice. An interesting contrast between the dynamism of the swan's wings and the rest of the bird and its companion. Nice light catching the heron and fine setting. The lovely photo of the small brown bird (you can tell I'm no ornithologist) is impressively sharp. What focal length was it taken at?
Excellent series of shots, Maurice. My favorite is the last one with the heron and, I think, cormorants.
I go for the House Sparrow (#1). It seems to epitomise the bird well.

All nice shots, but I like the last one best. I like bird pics, but landscapes are more in my range. And lately, I am preferring to see more context (background) in bird pics. I prefer that even over the finer detail of close up shots.
A nice series of images, Maurice. #4 is exceptional.
These are lovely shots. I will also say that the last one is exceptional.
Probably the nicest series I remember coming from your camera. In addition to the color and composition of all of them, I like the order in which they are presented.
Thanks Maurice. At one time house sparrows were extremely common here, and their chirrupping often used to wake me when I was young. I haven't seen one for years in my garden. I get dunnocks, bullfinches, chaffinches, tits and blackbirds (and a host of magpies and wood pigeons) but no house sparrows! (Maybe due to everyone round here having sealed up eaves now?)
200mm: that's interesting, so I have no excuse for not trying to take smaller birds with my 70-300 lens
I am finding that difficult too. I can get very nice shots with a telephoto, although I am having to get much closer than I originally thought.
My iPhone has a nice lens and I am experimenting with it, using a bluetooth remote. That is going quite well now that I have a reliable remote.
I think I can get my 14mm close now that I have a good remote (a Vello Free Wave) for that. It works from 320 feet away, does not need a line-of-sight, can work from indoors behind windows and even can be focused remotely before shooting.
Well shot!
