Another from my bright winters' day

Part of the New Year's Resolution is to spend more time on pp and learning new techniques. I have spent a lot of time 'brushing' this image to adjust the darks, lights, shadows. It continues my propensity for the 'calm' shot. Any thoughts for improvements on the pp are welcome.

Nice Kaye. Some images are just made for mono. I suspect that this wouldn't have had the same impact in colour. My only thought for improvement would be to clone some cloud into that bright spot top centre. I know that it is probably the sun but there is no detail to recover. Rather than lose it altogether, if you have the ability to create a separate layer on which to clone the cloud, you can then adjust the opacity to make it look as if the sun is shining through. Just a thought.

Hi Kaye,
Part of my pp workflow is to fix the big problems first, if I can't fix the big ones I'll stop working on it. Mozt of my big problems are usually noise or color distortion problems; so I try to minimize during capture if possible. Nice work on the image.

This works well in b+w, with interesting textures in the water and shoreline. I agree with John re the blown-out area in the sky. I don't miss colour in this image

It certainly is a peaceful image. It must have felt like that when taking the photo.

However, I also find the overexposed cloud in the middle a distraction. It's too late now, but next time you're faced with such brightness, you might want to use a GND filter.

My only contribution, is that the bottom 1/4 of the frame the does not add to the image, so I would consider cropping it. Love the mono treatment!

Hello Kaye: I think you have achieved your goal of a peaceful image. I do like the little rocks and the ripples in the lower right corner and the horizon is well placed.

You seem to have fixed the blown out part of the sky very nicely Kaye Your PP work seems good but IMO too much water doesn't add to the composition and shadows and highlights on the water make the composition a bit crowded. So I cropped the image just to give you an idea. If you don't like it and if you want me to remove the image please let me know, I will remove it immediately.

Thanks Binnur for the ideas. In this instance I prefer the expanse of water although I do very often see a shot in the 16:9 format.

Hi, Kaye. Landscape is not my strength and I'm totally ignorant of B/W. But for what it's worth here are my thoughts.

Regarding the theme of calm, mission accomplished. The image is definitely calm/serene. Nothing conveys that better than glassy water. The lighting in the sky is much improved in the second version. Nice job.

Compositionally I'm bothered by being teased with the bit of sand/gravel at lower right but then being deprived of the curve of the coastline connecting into the distance.
