Helpful Posts: Regular sports photographers, often suggest that seeing the person instead of an anonymous helmet, improves the photograph. Not easy to achieve with modern reflective visors. So I was quite pleased to have captured this until I realised that the bails in the BG were wrapped in eye catching bright orange or white polythene. Hence resorting to mono.

Great shot - timing, composition, focus.
There is lots of sharpening artefacts especially in the background though. It looks like an X Trans file that was cropped heavily and both sharpening and noise reduction were applied in excess.

Thanks for the feedback Dem. The image was made on a Nikon D7000 using the 18-200mm Nikkor. It's a couple of years old and from a time before I knew how to use masks and layers. I suspect what you are seeing is simply poor use of the Blur Tool. I would (I hope) do a better job today. The X Trans problems associated with ACR have been around for a couple of years and from time to time I have considered Photo Ninja as a solution but it only really shows itself in any significant way occasionally and in my experience is at it's worst in foliage. I keep telling myself that I ought to do more landscape work but until I do, I'm reluctant to fork out the £80 or so to invest in Photo Ninja as a RAW converter. I'm OK with everything else using Photoshop CC with which I am generally quite familiar with.
