The Nikon I really wanted, but probably won't have...

The NIKON that I really wanted is no longer in production and since it is a film camera, I don't want it anymore. When it was the top of the line Nikon rangefinder, I always pined over the Nikon SP but, never had one.

Actually, I liked the early Canon film SLR cameras like the FX and FT better than the early Nikon film SLR cameras. However, the Canon SLR cameras were not as rugged as the Nikon F or even the Nikkorex SLR cameras. But, I did like some of the Canon manual focus lenses quite a bit, especially the 200mm f/4 FD which, as opposed to the equivalent Nikkor 200mm f/4 AI, had internal focusing elements...

I had two Canons fail me in the dust and grime of Dong Ha Vietnam while fellow photographers were still shooting away merrily with their Nikon SLR's...

During my first shoot with it, I absolutely fell in love with the Nikkor 43-86mm zoom for the Nikon film SLR camera. THAT WAS UNTIL... I saw the results of my first shoot with it and never picked up that lens again. Luckily, it belonged to the Navy, not to me, personally

Hi Richard:

I got into photography in the early 1980's when the Nikon F3 and Canon A-1 were in their primes (no pun intended, but I'll take it anyway ).

I was thinking it would be nice if Canon came out with a retro style camera, but of course it would not take their earlier lenses without adaptors since they changed their mounts, not an issue with Nikons. I just like the look and feel of the dials, and I don't change ISO very often. Also, the Nikon does have a full alternative menu system if I so choose and a couple of programmable controls as well. Still, nice to look at but outside my budget...
