I remember the rather drab offering in English markets long ago (with the possible exception of Dutch tomatos, drool).

But I've been here in Texas long enough to forget what impressed me when I first arrived. So it is that I'm posting a selection of peppers on offer at the local small-town super-market:



Aieee . . que colores! Beware them red 'uns at the top for $6.99/lb - they're the dreaded Habanero peppers . . . quite warm . .

Colorful.

In Germany the Dutch tomatoes where called Waterbombs. They looked good but no taste. It's the eye that sells.

I never understood why the green peppers are more expensive as the colored in Holland. I prefer them. They're also sold in package of three, red, green and yellow and called traffic lights.

The habanero looks like a Madam Jeanette, from Suriname. One can make delicious peppersauce of it.

We have the same in France .... coming from Holland. They are less suspicious than the ones coming from Spain (with their lower laws about pesticides and so on)

We call them capsicum here; green is cheap where as yellow and red are costlier... An essential part of fast food fries

Nice looking selection of produce and a well shot image. However, on my many trips to Central Texas (just north of Austin) I was always disappointed with the quality of the produce in comparison to what I am used to in Southern California. Yellow, red and orange are also less expensive here than are the green peppers. However, prices tend to vary with the seasons. Much or our produce, to the dismay of local farmers, is imported from Mexico, right across the border from San Diego...

I have decided to lay in a couple of pepper plants as well as some tomato plants this year. I have a perfect place for them!

Nice colors, Ted. It's easy to take fresh produce for granted when you have every day access to it. Seems to be human nature.

In Holland those belly peppers are called paprika. Is hungarian for pepper. I think introduced in Holland by the refugees of '56.

Terrific color, Ted! Did you use a polarizer to help control glare?

As for serving stuffed bell peppers, I have two recipes that I like. If the veggie is large enough, the serving definitely provides enough food for an entire meal.

Thanks, Mike. No, it was one of those moments where I saw the colors and whipped out the trusty cell phone. 4 quick snaps, two were blurred enough to dump and I selected the sharper of the two remaining. All four shots were on full auto-everything, so we what see is what Samsung thought we should see . . .
