Hanging On
Spotted at the bottom of my garden. It's not selective colour shot. Shot against the light which is very low and the BG is a tall Leylandii hedge in deep shadow so I helped it along a bit by upping the contrast.

Re: Hanging On
Nice image John, you can continue to darken the BG in Camera Raw in decreasing the shadows, white parts won't be touched and will pop up more.

Re: Hanging On
A nice image. If I can make one suggestion; with an image like this, I would darken selectively, with a selection (as in photoshop) or an adjustment brush (in lightroom), rather than by increasing contrast globally. Increasing contrast runs the risk of overdoing the parts you don't want to adjust. In this case, the whites seem to be blown out, which increasing contrast could contribute to.

Re: Hanging On
Thanks for all the feedback.
Dan K, always open to sugestiions. When I said “....increasing the contrast..”, it was a bit of shorthand. I don't often use the contrast tool in ps. It's not the most useful tool in the box. I will have adjusted the left hand slider in the Levels tool. However, as a result of your suggestion, I applied the Shadows/Highlights tool to cut back on the highlights. Worth doing because it gives a lot more modelling to the branches. The frost remains blown but that doesn't bother me because it looks OK.

Re: Hanging On
Great eye and concept! The frost is so consistently blown throughout the image that I assumed that was the style you wanted. It would make a great note card.
Hopefully you've read O. Henry's famous short story, The Last Leaf.

Re: Hanging On
Really nice , my personal preference would to focus more on the leaf area or that branch , I don't see the significance of the right branch . This , how ever is a personal preference .Great work on a nice pic.

Re: Hanging On
Thanks all for the continued comment.
Mike, no but if I can find a copy I will (Amazon download perhaps).
Raymond, it provides balance but having said that I do have a portrait version and that works as well. Just personal preference I guess.
