    Intervalometer Recommendations - Nikon

    Hello,

Just looking for some recommendations for an Intervalometer for my Nikon D7200

I wanted to get a remote shutter release cable (to accompany my IR Remote Release) and then also have the capability for taking interval shots (Star Trails). I looked at the Nikon Version - MC 36 and the price seems a bit steep. Maybe it is worth it???

Anyone have any recommendations for second party Intervalometers? Experience and feedback are welcome.

    Thanks
    Erik

Probably the camera contains an intervalometer. Look in the menu. http://www.nikon-tutorials.com/2015/...00-corey-rich/
Just a remote shutter cable is about 15 euro. Maybe less.

More research on internal Intervalometer of D7200 - seems that it is a bit confusing and can be a problem with longer exposure times. (I.e. Star trails). Still maybe worth an attempt...

I was looking for a same thing as you. Until I discovered it was already in the camera.
When you set an interval, you set that for a serie of pictures. It's not that clear in the manual.
What you want is an interval time and a duration. By example every 10s and for 1 hour. But you also have to set the amount of pictures within that interval.. I think that might be usable with bracketing. It took me a while before I noticed that.

    we all have those moments
i was looking for flash triggers so i could do off camera high speed sync, only to find out it could be done on the D7200 in the settings (not very obvious though)

I use the Vello Shutterboss. I suspect that Nikon sells a re-badged Vello at a much higher price, as the units look identical, other than the name on it.

There are many 3rd party options, all much of a muchness. They're exactly the same physically as the Nikon versions and have the same functionality. I think the only difference may be that you can't switch them off (if I remember correctly, but this is based on a D700 connectable version purchased in 2011).

I wouldn't worry about that though - mine's still got the original battery in - may need to invest in another soon.

Thanks - I do see some third party ones and was considering those as options. Vello seemed good, but cannot find the Nikon version in Germany. Thinking about this one. Good reviews and seems to do the job - just afraid that it will be something that I will use infrequently and when I need it, it will not work....worth the try at the cost.

For time laps you don't need an external intervalometer. I don't know what it ads to the camera.
I just wanted to show you the link I just founded. A good explanation on timelaps. It's only about 2 hours. I ran through it.

One advantage of an external intervalometer is if you are shooting at night and don't want to be touching the camera after you've set up, framed and focused. No chance of inadvertently moving or knocking the camera body. Less of an issue during daylight as you can quickly check your viewfinder but at night and with v low light levels the viewfinder or live view may not allow you to check that your composition hasn't changed.

That might be, but Erik has a remote shutter release already. Beside that, a steady tripod is a must. And the first photo you can delete, can't be that important.
