Lantic Bay, Cornwall.

Some winter sushine earlier this week on Lantic Bay, Cornwall. But the shots look much softer compared to the fickr versions.

The first three are really nice images. Well composed and executed. Don't much care for the last shot. Just an uninteresting rock and a bunch of indistinct foot prints

At first glance it seems the signwriters left the "A" off at the beginning of the name seeing as this is an arm of the Atlantic ocean

Nice series although the last one doesn't appeal as much. I like the colour and details in the headland in the others.

Cornwall has to be one of my favourite areas in England. In fact if I were to live over there that's where I'd be looking to settle

I like the colours and compositions in all of these, Andy.

Something I noticed when scrolling the screen is the effect of cropping the mainly featureless sky, so I experimented - when viewed full-screen, the feeling of 3D depth in 2, 3 and 4 is enhanced for me when the land on the right exits at the top right corner of the image.

I do like them all, but especially #1. I did wonder about the orientation of the signpost. Is this an artefact of a wide-angle?

Definitely a real name. I photographed this dredger around 17 or more years ago, before I went to a digital camera



It was working on a job in South Devon at the time, not Cornwall, but I think it was Cornish based. Looked a bit rough then so probably scrapped by now.

And to ''Geof F'', yes lantic Bay in your shot has been replaced by a slightly more modern vessel.

''The Fowey Harbor Commissioner’s (FHC) Dredger ‘Lantic Bay’ has a special place in the maritime history of the Port of Fowey.
Named after the bay 1 mile east of the harbor, she was built in 1957 by FHC in their ship yard at Brazen Island. She carried out decades of dredging work in Fowey harbor and further afield until in 2003, when FHC decided to sell her as considerable investment was required to keep her operational.
She was sold and operated from Fleetwood by Wyre Marine Services for over 10 years in which time some significant changes were made to her accommodation and a swing shovel was added.
In 2014, with rising costs to Fowey in outside dredging contracts and the need for dredging in the tight confines of some of the creeks in the harbor, it was decided to purchase the Lantic Bay back and she has now ‘come home’ to Fowey and is working successfully to dredge the leisure areas of the Port.
She still maintains the capability of working elsewhere and has the appropriate coding to do so.''

The Lantic Bay and another rigid arm hydraulic dredging barge removed the heavy clay silt so now, in Salcombe Harbour, we have a water pressure dredger every few years to keep on top of the soft mud build up. It simply agitates the mud on an ebb tide and it just 'floats away'. Not good for the compacted stuff though.
