Dave, nice conversion and I like the gritty finish. It suits the subject but I guess you need to have been there to understand why. BTW Silver Effects or if you want it, the whole Nik collection, is still downloadable from Google free of charge.

Beautifully converted, Dave. Initially, I thought that the foreground may have been too empty. However, the absence of a single key point of i9nterest is more than made up for by the quality of the conversion in terms of the contrast and structure you have in the grass. The sky is just gorgeous. The overall feeling is one of fresh air and lots of room to breath. Love it.

The fence line at the top of the first layer is just perfect.

Exactly! There is also a subtle triangular shape that perfectly fits the foreground area. That shape is made up of those gorgeous light and dark areas.

Nice PP, may be a 16x9 format reducing the FG could enhance this picture?

Thank you John. Re the free Nik plug-ins, it is a long story, but out of them I can only use Viveza. But I can at least use the old Silver Efex now (the newer version just makes my PSE crash)

Thank you Donald. I must confess that unlike you I haven't yet really developed the ability to see a scene like this in black and white at the shooting stage, but am pleased that I did see the possibilities in the rather uninspiring colour original, especially the sky and the foreground grasses

Thank you Jean. I thought about something similar but was reluctant to lose the nice textures from the foreground

My first thought was to crop the foreground and go more panoramic; as Donald also mentioned.

Very nice conversion Dave I would suggest cropping just a bit from the top but I wouldn't think of cropping from the FG.

Bleak and empty landscape, excellently captured. Beautiful BW conversion.

Dave, I love it. The dark 'something' in the middle of the left side is a bonus. I would crop some 50mm off the sky. That is only my opinion.
    Cheers Ole
