    Grandfathers old wall clock

I haven't been outside shooting for a week or so so thought I would try to get a few images of a wall clock my grandfather made many years ago. I wasn't happy with the shots of the entire clock so I decided to go after capturing some of the details. Processed the images in color and still wasn't happy so I converted to monochrome. I'm fairly happy with these 3 images but may tinker a little more on them. C&C welcome.

Try expanding the images, much better that way.

IMO shutter speed on # 1 is to high to simulate the movement, on # 2 screws do not signify the age of the clock, # 3 for me is the more relevant image in relation with your title.

I like all three images, but that's no surprise because I like tight crops and detailed shots. Wonderful conversions!

In the first one, the issue for me is that the upper part of the pendulum isn't moving as fast, so the shutter speed is too fast for that part of the pendulum. However, if you had used a slower shutter speed, the lower part of the pendulum might have become lost. A quick workaround for me would be to crop at the top to display less of the upper part of the pendulum and at the same time lead the eye to focus on the lower part, which displays adequate motion.

I think the only way to show an adequate amount of motion in all parts of the pendulum using just one capture would be to shoot it from a different angle. I've never made a photo involving this kind of issue so I may be wrong.

Thanks Jean for you comments. I had an images with more pendulum blur but the rest of the image was not good. I can always re-shoot. I've had the clock for 12 years and the screws were always there in the bottom. Probably left overs or fell out somewhere from inside the case.

Thanks Mike, you make some good points. A little more work required.

Liked them all; in #1, you may make the movement of pendulum more available to see
