I don't normally shoot from an airliner...
I don't normally even try to shoot images when I am flying commercially. There are too many things going against me.
First, just getting a seat with a window view that is not obscured by the wing...
Second, clarity of the day
Third, halfway interesting subject coming into view
Fourth, angle of the sun
Fifth, clear relatively unscratched window
And so on and so on
However, I was just getting ready to call my wife as soon as my plane landed yesterday and I looked out the window. Here's what I saw and what I got with my iPhone 6+

I saw a presentation about five years ago by Frans Lanting and one of the photos in his slideshow was taken from a commercial flight. He said that he takes an image of publishable quality about one every ten flights.

Makes a change from a wing leading to a lot of cumulus Richard. One of the few benefits is to make good use of the height - which is what you have done here.

As the aircraft began to bank right to line up with the airport runway, the Coronado Bridge came into view at a distance. The flare began to increase due to the angle of the sun bouncing off the plane's window. Often, you can get a better view of the Coronado Bridge but, this time it was way far off in the distance...
The terminus of the Bridge is the town of Coronado and the islands off in the distance are Mexican Territory.
Frequently on landing at San Diego, the aircraft passes by the tall downtown buildings. Quite often below the level of the buildings roofs. This did not happen this time. Again, the flare interfered with the image.
The strip of land that you see at the top right of the last image is Point Loma...
I will try to get this same seat (front window seat on port - left - side of the aircraft) on my next flight but, since there is open seating, it is simply first come first choice for seats...
By the way, I was returning from Oakland, California where I had delivered one of our rescue dogs to a new adoptive family. The new mom had paid for the round trip flight...
