Thiksey Monastery is the largest in Ladakh and often reminds people of the Potala Palace, in Lhasa, Tibet. I tool a series of shots during our morning visit. The monks were extremely scarce - we saw two or three during our entire visit, so that is why there are no shots of monks in this series.
1. Thiksey Monastery
2. Maitreya (Future Buddha) at Thiksey Monastery. It was installed in 1970 for the visit by the Dali Lhama. It is 15m / 49 ft high. This image was created from 5 hand-blended, bracketed shots.
3. Chorten - these are monuments to important people. In some places, in the past, ashes of the deceased were placed inside them, but that is not the case with these chorten.
4. Prayer wheels
5. Door leading to a temple in the monastery
6. Time for some abstract shots. This is a shot of shadows on a stairway (the shot has been rotated by 90 degrees).
7. More abstract stairs.
