A couple more from the retention pond today
We are in the middle of our winter drought. As a result, a lot of water holes are reduced in size or completely dried up. This one is getting smaller every day which makes for a wonderful concentration of the fish in it. This also means it becomes an easy feeding area for the birds and they also get concentrated in the area.
The Roseate Spoonbill only hunts in water where it's beak can reach the bottom easily. As they stir the mud up other birds follow them for what gets stirred up and missed. The bigger birds like the Herons stay a bit further away looking for the disturbance to herd larger fish their way.
