    Petals

A couple of petals fell off the tulips that I posted on the current mini competition. I placed them on a piece of melamine and used my large bay window as a huge softbox to light them. This is the resulting shot:

    Petals

I was trying to use the texture of the white melamine as a contrast to the veil like texture of the petals.

As always C & C will be welcomed.

The petals certainly have a lovely feathery look to them and are nicely displayed with just that hint of texture from the pure white melamine.

Such a gorgeous, simple photo. Fabulously soft light. I don't think the texture in the tabletop would work if the light wasn't so soft. Great job of maintaining obvious separation between the white part of the subjects and the white tabletop.

A great shot. I think that the stamen and the pollen are what give it that extra something.

Thank you all for your kind comments.
However, some of the credit for this photo has to go to Mike Buckley who greatly inspired me to try this style of photography with his mastery of the light and who recommended the book; "Light: Science & Magic" that gave me the knowledge to take advantage of my bay window as a giant softbox. All I really had to do was to move my petals away from the window until I got the soft shadows that I was looking for.

Why not all of the credit?!

Seriously, so glad you've apparently gotten as much out of Light: Science & Magic as I have.

I thought that I could take some credit for reading the book.
I have the feeling that this book will get read several more times. Thanks for recommending it.

    Hi Izzie,

    Nice to have you back.

The tulip won't be coming out of the ground before late April or early May.
Every once in a while, I buy cut flowers for my wife. That has helped us stay together for nearly 48 years. As a bonus I get to photograph them

How sweet...48 years! Well, congratulations for staying together for that long. Time flies when you're having fun...really...

Anyway, I take back what I said. I passed by the supermarket yesterday and saw a truckload of tulips being delivered, most of them budding...I have tulips in my garden. They are beautiful but I have never seen the ones growing on the side of the house as the deers love eating them. My backyard has a tulip area.
