    How times have changed.

    How times have changed.
The flim went off to be processed and the colour slides came back.

    How times have changed.
    Look at the postage!

I wondered what my Dad was doing in Portsmouth, VA, United States in 1941. He was crew on one of His Majesties "Grey Funnel Line" ships at that time. Then I noticed the address - Norfolk Navel Shipyard.

The photos were of my Mother and sister, but I suspect the true date was 1942 because my sister was clearly walking when the photos were taken. Sadly the red dye has faded, blue and green are fine but I couldn't recover the red mask to do a proper job of restoring the colours when I digitised them.

I didn't know American postage was ever priced in fractions of a cent. Very interesting! Thanks for sharing!

As for the color slides, I was shooting them almost exclusively until 2007. If your father's slides had been stored properly, they probably would have been of publishable quality as far as their color is concerned even today.

They probably rounded up anyway, who would've carried 0.5 cents with them anyway; would've been counterfeit. I wonder if the pricing strategy was psychological or an incentive to get you to buy two?

Your comment motivated me to look that up, as I had never known half-pennies were ever minted. One of the websites I reviewed in my brief search indicates that at some point after 1792 they were used. However, I didn't find anything explaining when they were discontinued.

When I was a lad we still had farthings in the UK. Four of them to the old penny!

The last roll of film which I posted was expensive because due to the UK postal rates, which had recently been introduced, a film roll was too wide to go as a standard letter; so it was a parcel delivery price. Well within the weight for letter post but not for size.

I had just purchased my first digital camera then so my film equipment was put to one side and never used again.

That digital camera was a 4 MP Canon Powershot G2 which I purchased secondhand at half the new camera price; and it cost me £350 .

This website shows a bit of history of the half cents.
