    Online courses?

I am thinking of doing an online landscape photography course to improve my skills in this area. I have done a little bit of research this morning and came across this website offering a course in "Advanced Landscape Diploma". Does anyone have any experience in this particular website or can recommend any other courses?

The two (pay) sites that I recommend are (a) KelbyOne and (b) Lynda.com. These are generally regarded as the best ones, but neither are inexpensive. I subscribe to KelbyOne and have used Lynda.com in the past. Kelby has a fairly pure photographic focusl and Lynda.com has a lot of photographic material as well.

If you are looking at just landscape work, two sites worth considering are:

F-stoppers has a couple of downloadable and quite expensive and advanced landscape courses by Elia Locardi. Varina and Jay Patel have a a more standard look (again downloadable) landscape courses.

KelbyOne website: https://kelbyone.com/ I think KelbyOne lets you view a few lessons as well.

    Lynda.com: https://www.lynda.com/ - there is a 10-day free trial available

    The f-stoppers website is: https://fstoppers.com/store

The Patel's courses are at: https://visualwilderness.com/learn

Then of course there is YouTube, but the quality can be variable and the free stuff from the big names is usually there to tempt you to sign up. As for the resource you are looking at, I've never heard of it.

    Hi Neil,

Creative Live is another one I buy from and their standards and presenters are generally good.

Landscape isn't my genre, so I haven't sampled their courses on this topic, but for other subjects, I say the following.

I'd recommend buying wisely though; they tend to often have sales, or make you offers, so if you do join, don't get too carried away - what I mean is that when you buy one course, at the checkout; they'll offer one or two others on a similar topic at a discount of say, 20, 30 or 40% as tempters, these offers may or may not prove to be a bargain over the longer term.

That's because their other sales can offer courses at 50% or more off.

Sometimes they'll offer courses at silly prices (compared to list), but these tend to be older titles (as you might expect), or ones where some of the content is a bit compromised in technical quality. I have recently been buying at $19 and $29 courses that are list priced at $99 or sometimes much more (all figures plus tax).

The CL advantage here is you can download and Save to watch if your ISP connection isn't stable or fast enough to watch streamed HD.

With Lynda, you can't download courses unless you subscribe at a premium level, so you have to have a good connection when you want to watch.

    Cheers, Dave

Serge Ramelli offers quite a few free tutorials and a number of learn for pay courses. His stuff mostly has to do with post processing.

    Re: Online courses?

Note: There ara actually two types of online training FREE and EXPENSIVE - just kidding

Actually the two types are the "one way" course which just provides information and the second is the "interactive" course in which you submit images and receive feedback.

I have never done a course in which I received personal feedback but, have received some great feedback on CiC....

I agree with Dave's suggestions. I use Creative Live too. Courses are not that expensive either and there are live free courses too though you can't download the live feed topic. They are on specials for Valentine Day, kinda like a teaser for you to buy the course on normal days. If there is a US holiday coming soon, they also offer some of the courses on a discount. I bought two less than $25 courses yesterday. One is for a craft thing and one for Photoshop I thought I might be able to use. Last time I was there, I joined the Challenge. It was fun. And I was able to download the lessons. They have quite a good selection of courses too from Photography to craft to pyschological stuffs.

Take a look and check them out --

    Re: Online courses?

I've tried a free online course on Coursera - Principles of Photo Composition and Digital Image Post-Production. But hostly I didn't like it, it was a bit boring. But you can take a look.
