    Posting photos using Flickr

With the demise of Tinypic from which I used to post, I have signed up with Yahoo Flickr.
I was wondering if any of the members that use Flickr on CiC could give me some suggestions in what code to use?

I have not uploaded any photos to Flickr yet but in reading their FAQ it mentions two codes, Html and BBcode.
The link-address seems very large and I wouldn't want to load a full size photo file'

Any help would be appreciated. I subscribe to the KISS system, "Keep it simple silly'

    Thanks,
    Pat.

BB Code is the one, it should start with IMG inside square brackets

As to size, ideally, as you should have been doing with TinyPic, do not upload fullsize, make it fit people's screens, then sharpen, save as a different filename and upload.

    Select an image.
Click on the share butom right under, an arrow.
Select BB-code. That gives you the possibility to choice one of the available sizes.
Past that to this forum via the insert buttom on this forum.

    Enough KISS?

    Thanks George,
When I open share I do not see any codes to select, it just shows a code that links the photo to Flicker. I poster this link to the Oldd Scout knife thread and just got a link.

    Dave,
I liked Tinypic as it allowed me to select the size. I don't want to post a full size imahe so until I sort this Flicker out or Tinypic is available I will resize my photos (copy) on the computer first
    Thanks

Personally I wouldn't recommend using the BB code as it creates external links so viewers are either taken away from (in this case) CiC if they click on your image to see if larger - a deeply maddening feature and one that stops me viewing your work or ever commenting on it or produces a very small view...or both.

    Select your image.
Click on the Download arrow and chose View All Sizes.
Pick the size you want and right click the image then chose Copy Image Address.
On the forum click the Insert Picture button and paste the URL you've just copied into the box and press enter.

Doing it this way produces the result below:

    Posting photos using Flickr

Doing it with the BB Code produces this:

You must get a screen with the possibility to choice between share, embed, email and bbcode. The last one gives you the possibility to choice a size.

    Re: Posting photos using Flickr

I'm confused by your assertion Robin,

As linked here, they have different file names, so they are different pictures now - with different sizes.

The first one; ending _o.jpg is 1500px on longest edge.
The second one; ending _z.jpg is 640px on longest edge.

They might well have originated from a single uploaded image, but they are different now.

The o means original, the z means a lower size.
The o contains the exif, the z not.

I don't know what you want to tell.

It is the exact same image - look at my Flickr and you will only find one original version.

By using the share function Flickr picks a smaller render of your original upload (check the sizes page where there are several smaller versions for each image) which is why I pointed out that using the BB Code isn't the best way of posting to another page. You don't get control over the size or quality - it won't be the original size - and it embeds external link which disrupt the flow of a forum.

    Just before bedtime.

It's the same picture but not the same image, file. Either way via the donload-view all sizes or via the share-bb you've the choice between 9 sizes. Flickr stores the uploaded file in 9 different sizes, only the original has the exif. Those files have a different address and a different name: a code has been added to it.
Do you want to access them through the share way, then you get an address in a code, suited for the purpose you wanted.
Through the download-view all sizes the picture is shown directly from the directory it's placed. So you can get the image location with the right mouse click.
I counted the file sizes based upon a big picture of mine. Yours may be less.

Leaves me to ask waht you mean with this

    I don't recognize this.

An image I posted before. Linked via BB, original size.
    Posting photos using Flickr

Maybe I see what you mean. I removed some of the code.
First you see it in the size of the forum, whatever it is. Than when clicking on it a bigger version. And then when available the original as I linked.

I think that Dave Humphries and Robin are suggesting exactly the same result.

I note Dave mentions (my bold and underlined for emphasis), “BB Code is the one, it should start with IMG inside square brackets.” (i.e. "[img]")

Robin’s suggested procedure, results in exactly that.

Additionally, I think any confusion (and the additional conversation) has stemmed from how people define or interpret the phrases: "BB Code" and "HTML".

    [IMG]Posting photos using Flickrgw_20170205-017 by george0131, on Flickr[/IMG]

In this part Robin was right. This time I didn't remove what I thought the additional info. It changed the behaviour. So this is the BB-code as Flickr gives.
But it does wonder me about two things. First why Robins example doesn't have that additional info, and second the extra img tags added by CiC.
Clicking on his picture doesn't do anything, this one does.

Leaves that files with different sizes are 2 different files, with 2 different addresses.

****. It behaves different in the preview as now!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the preview I'm going to the Flickr page by clicking.

The BB Coded links are a mess and their results are unpredictable in that you don't typically see the image as you uploaded it. Going through to the size options page on Flickr, picking your original file and lifting the image address to paste directly onto the forum is the best way to ensure you get exactly what you want and that it won't create hyper links away from the forum.

First of all, the difference in behaviour between the preview and the final post can be considered as a bug in the forum setup. The last picture with the [img] around it is created just with the BB-code. I even left the img tags there, they where added by this forum. There is no difference in behaviour between that one and the other one created in your way.

But I did link a picture of 4256x2832 pixels. The way this forum has been coded is that it shows this picture first in a window specified in this software. The second choice is as width as the body of this page is. I hope I express my self good. But both are limited by the pc and browser you use. The third option, when using that arrow at the bottom of the picture can be used if the picture is still too big. In that case you can see it at 100% and you must scroll. It's the same picture, resizing is done at your pc.
I just unplugged the network cable and clicked on my image, all three sizes are available without a connection. Backwards and forwards.

If you don't want the link to your Flickr account to be shown, just remove everything before and after the img tags.

Funny, when I click on your image while I'm logged in, I'm sent to your Flickr page. Not when I'm not logged in. Definitive something for the mods or higher.

George, thanks for the tip. It seems I'm unable to remove the other codes.
