This Le Grau du Roi in the Camargue area of France.

A touch of sunshine after nearly two months of gloom and doom (family illnesses, accidents and heavy workload). Hope to get back to taking some photos now.

Forgive my ignorance borne of a lack of travel to that part of the world, but being used to English tides of several metres rise and fall, how does this (and Venice for that matter) work?
It is the sea, yes?

Nice picture, although I am wondering what the chap on the board is going to do next (paddle?).

The Mediterranean Sea, does not experience any significant tides. The entrance to the Sea at Gibraltar is too narrow to allow large movements of water. Nevertheless, there is a small tide, where water flows from East Mediterranean to West and back again.

Hi Dave,

As already mentioned the sea is the Med. The whole Camargue area is very flat, formed by the Rhone flowing into the Med and created by tons of alluvial deposit. While we were there this river rose several meters and the department was on red flood alert caused by heavy rain in the Cevenne mountains behind us.

The guy on the surf board was paddling down the river, don't know why.
