Beaujolais Nouveau :-)

I wasn't quite sure where to put this, but figured wine comes from grapes and they're natural so....

Barbara and I have been collecting Beaujolais Nouveau bottles for quite a while. The oldest is from 1997, the latest from 2015. For those that don't know, this is the first pressing of the grape and the wine is quite mild, fairly low alcohol, not even close to dry, and serves best chilled just a bit. It happens to arrive in the states near American Thanksgiving and it just so happens that it pairs well with poultry. This is 9 exposures merged in Photomatix Pro 5 then touched up in Light Room. Any CC is welcome!

Was that for the effect?

Just that I'm not at all sure the scene's dynamic range warranted that number of captures or amount of work.

Is that what some call an Orton effect?


A little too colourful and 'glowy' for my taste, but if you like it - and you must, that's fine - I'm known for being boring!

Thanks, Dave! I know HDR isn't for many, but it's fun to play with. I typically do 7 shots, but really, it's very little extra work to add a couple.

And the actual reason this was done in the first place is that my wife and I are moving in a couple of months and we're really reducing what we're taking with us and the bottles were on the list. So...when I was removing them, I got the hair-brained idea to photograph them. It was a fun exercise. I printed the shot on Red River's Polar Pearl Metallic. The print looks way cool being printed on the metallic based paper. I may try running it through Silver Efex Pro 2 to see how it renders in B&W.

The whole scene is kind of busy, agreed. But since this was a house cleaning chore turned photo shoot, I wanted to shoot 'em all for posterity's sake. :-) Lotsa' dust on them there bottles.

Yeah...I reckon this will be good looking in print...to each his own when doing HDR and some HDR is so subtle you can hardly recognize them as HDR at all. Looks like this is the front of a fireplace. Nice job.

I like the image, the highlights seems a bit too much though, reducing them might give a better look

Thanks, everyone! I'll be going to the market tomorrow where I sell my prints and I have this one ready to go. I'll have to see what kind of reaction I get. Other HDR shots of mechanical things like engine blocks and machine shop stuff like lathes have sold pretty well.

I use Photomatix Pro 5 for real estate stuff. It has a great Real Estate option that renders the shots nicely with zero hint of the fact that it's HDR in the conventional sense. It's all fun!!
