Thread: Day 01 - October 2010 PAD

  1. #21

    Square #1 (no name)

I have decided to do all of my PAD shots this month either shooting subjects I don't normally shoot (such as people), or experimenting with different techniques (time laps etc). So I apologise for the mess in advance.

I decided to eschew studio lights and flash and take a naturally-lit street shot. I don't know who she is. Shot with Panasoni G1 and 14-45mm @ 33 mm

My PAD album for October 2010

    See it on black

Nice shot and good subject. It shows the concentration on his face (I love watching other people work). Yes, I think it looks better as BW. I did a quick edit to see - hope you don't mind me posting? If so I will remove it. Your shot would look even better with some sharpening.

    Rainy Day - Sunny Pansy

For some reason I thought October 1 was tomorrow (behind the times as usual)!

So at 5 pm, and in desperation because it had been wet and windy all day, I went into the greenhouse where I saw this smiling face.

Popped down to my local bike shop, (managed to avoid buying yet another bike), lovely old gentleman proprietor. Fluorescent lights everywhere.

    Monochrome maybe?

    Comments very welcome...

    Hi Pete,

No, I like it as it is; subtle and with a bit of colour. The WB is good for fluorescent lights, I like the composition to with the arm and cycle parts framing the shot on the bottom and right.

Hmmm, I'm running out of time and my daughter has just refused to be a model, despite having a new dress for her eighteenth birthday (a few days ago) and being in full 'war-piaint' as going out clubbing shortly

Then she changes her mind and I have literally < 1 minute before her lift arrives to take a shot (or 3)

Not posed, just stood in front of the kitchen wall under mixed halogen spots + fluorescent light, but this is still better than the one I did with pop up flash

    Nikon D5000 + Nikon 18-200mm VR: 1/4s f/8 at 27mm iso800 - handheld

It's a train wreck; soft as pudding at fullsize, horrid shadow, and after all Colin's effort, I am ashamed

WB taken from the side of the white (Ikea) cupboard not in the picture off to the right!
Minimal PP; ACR basics, rotate, crop, downsize, sharpen.

This is just some quirkiness I found on a fence. I think a horizontal orientation would have been better, it would show more of the surroundings, highlighting the unusual placement of the pots.

I got home a bit before midnight. I hope this post works well. I am totally new to the whole editing process, so these 31 days will help me with that too.

    Hi Kay,

The Lygon St market will be on the third Sunday each moth - starting in November. I also do a market at Gisborne on the first Sunday of each month. Love to see you.

But we did find somewhere with more room to move away from background and still have her in shade so that was good.
    Gotta remember that hairbrush too!
So we will keep at it ....... 30 days hath....nah only kidding

Thanks Pete! I like the angularity too.

The Albert Hall in Canberra is quite humble compared with the real one in London. It was built in the 1920s - which is old for Canberra. For those of you outside Australia, Canberra was established as the national capital in 1913. It just farm land at that time. The Federal Parliament opened in Canberra in 1927. However, the district was settled in about the 1830s. A number of my ancestors were amongst the early settlers.
