    Day 01 - October 2010 PAD

    Hi Folks,

The moment you've all been waiting for (with trepidation) has finally arrived (a bit late - sorry about that - but better late than never!).

So without further a-do, lets get this show on the road!

Nice one Colin. I really like the lighting, the eyes and the emotion in this shot.

    Re: Melbourne Street Art

I am currently collecting images around Melbourne for a DVD on Victoria that I am preparing for sale at a new market I am going to attend in Lygon St, Carlton from November onwards. Lygon St is famous for its Italian restaurants. I am currently in the hunt for street art. He is one I collected today.

Thanks Peter, I kinda like these more contrasty shots too ... they certainly make a nice change from super-soft light from softboxes (this was shot with a tight grid for the key, and a softbox for the hair/kicker lighting).

    Thanks Mike,

So as not to confuse the PAD I have posted my collection to date under a new album called Melbourne Street Art. I have not done this before so I hope it works.

We have some great street art and the good thing is the exponents of this art keep to laneways and the council encourages it so they all live in harmony.

    Enjoy.

    Modelling for Mum ...day 1

I put my wannabe Portrait apprentice hat on again this afternoon.
I do like the angles in Colin's examples, but mine seem backward like she is falling rather than giving the 'energy' effect - so will try a bit of a counter clockwise version next.
But we did find somewhere with more room to move away from background and still have her in shade so that was good.
    Gotta remember that hairbrush too!
So we will keep at it ....... 30 days hath....nah only kidding

    Hi Kay,

    Great stuff

One thing to try next time ... put broad vignette around the outside of the image before you apply the matte - it'll help draw the eye in towards the face.

By the way, a "backwards tilt" is fine

Let us know when Peter - if it's not a windy day (or he'll be off sailing) - my nearest & dearest might bring me along to say Hi

Cheers guys - you are too kind

....hopefully working on the the vignette won't take as long as the frame - that was a 2 glass of red job

    Richard the bikeman. Day 1

    Hi There,

Concerned about airing my efforts on PAD but looking to learn so will give it a shot..

Popped down to my local bike shop, (managed to avoid buying yet another bike), lovely old gentleman proprietor. Fluorescent lights everywhere.

    Monochrome maybe?

    Comments very welcome...

    Pete

    Re: Day 1 Albert Hall

Love it...angular stark authority and a cave like entrance. Also like the idea that the trees on the left may one day overwhelm the building.

    Hi Peter

Nice shot and good subject. It shows the concentration on his face (I love watching other people work). Yes, I think it looks better as BW. I did a quick edit to see - hope you don't mind me posting? If so I will remove it. Your shot would look even better with some sharpening.
