Such a nice set featuring a variety of activities! Consider using a different aspect ratio on the second one to create less negative space on the right than on the left.

Mike, I considered the positioning and I tried a different aspect but, I felt better with the negative space on the image right since he is charging in from that side.

Here is the portrait of the 7th Cavalry trooper in color. With a closer crop...
I think that the color version looks good with the blue uniform and the contrasting yellow insignia.
The horse looks like it is wearing a set of false teeth
The only problem is the ear plugs. Great for modern reenactments because it saves the ear drums but, not quite fitting for the era...
