    Broken Wine Glass

My wife and I always pack a pair of wine glasses when we travel because many places we stay in don't have wine glasses or have wine glasses that are too small. We don't pack our largest or most fragile wine glasses and the glasses we do take are carefully wrapped in shirts.

This is the first time a glass has been broken in our suitcase. Perhaps in this case we put it through too much of a test, as the suitcase was transferred down two steps of stairs (one set so steep it is called a ship's ladder) to a golf cart traveling on a bumpy dirt road, then to a boat, taxi cab, the first hand off at the airport, retrieval at customs at the second airport, another hand off at that airport, the final retrieval at the third airport and the ride to our home in another taxi cab. Now that I think about all of that, I suppose we're lucky that one of our wine glasses didn't break!

    Setup
The background is translucent vellum lit from behind by a small continuous-light lamp.

I know this is going to sound blasphemous and you've probably already been asked the question, but have you considered PETE, it is a very thick plastic. I was served wine at a festival in these foil sealed mini glasses at a festival last summer, the key is to really clean between usages to eliminate any staining or plastic taste. Nicely composed.

John, your post reminds me of how stupid I can be. We have a set of plastic wine glasses in our storage room that don't throw off any smell. The thought never occurred to my wife or me that we should pack them instead of glasses made of glass.

    Mike,

Lets hope switching won't decrease your series of glass images.

Thanks for the compliment, John, but there won't be any decrease in photos of glass.

The details and shadows make this a very interesting image. I love it.

Hi Mike I like the light and the varying tones of grey. I also like the composition, I would never think of shooting a broken wine glass that way.
