    Day 02 - October 2010 PAD

Well, the day is only 24 minutes old for us here in New Zealand, but as I've been doing some experimenting with star trails, I thought I'd get tonights shot out the way nice and early ...

    Day 02 - October 2010 PAD

Still a work in progress, but coming along. Also managed to have an umbrella blow over ... with 2x Canon 580EX IIs and 2x PocketWizard TT5 Flex's attached ... 580's are OK, but the TT5's are damaged ... and add that to another TT5 that I think is faulty, and it's been a very expensive evening

Such is the drive and dedication of a serious photographer that he wakes his daughter up in the middle of the nght and makes her act as model in the garden.

Excellent shot, Colin. But you will have to raise the allowance. Again.

Nah ... it's school holidays, and she was still up

Plus, worst case, I may have damaged close to $1000 worth of gear tonight, so no allowance increases just yet (2x TT5 with broken feet, and another with a fault that I probably won't be able to get fixed under warranty). Not a good day for photography

Update: Not as bad as I first thought ... looks like the hot shoe / foot are a relatively inexpensive module, and easy to replace. Whew!

By 14 hours on the east coast of the USA, does that mean we are looking into the future or are we stuck in the past?

Thanks Kay. I'm using this as an opportunity to learn PSE 8 and hopefully to step out of my comfort zone.

    Re: Day 02 Chalambra Ascent

It's back to the cycling today for me - Women's Road Race - this is as the riders reach the summit of the steepest climb on the course - Alp D'uez it is not, but it does rise at almost a 20 per cent gradient over the last 200m.

I am using the October PAD to chronicle a day in the life or Peter Ryan throughout the month of October. This is not necessarily about technically correct images, so I warn you in advance.
I am about to do this hay loft up for my studio.

This is a very exciting project for you Peter - we look forward to watching it develop - i know Dave is concerned about the wobbly ladder & pitchfork proximity...
I have concerns....about how you will get time to make Dinner & Feed the Horses

All the best with the project Peter! I conceived the idea for my new studio around Christmas last year ... and I think the whole project took something like 5 months before I could kinda call it complete. I'm guessing you're going to need to paint the ceiling and beams to prevent unwanted reflections and colour casts?

    Haven't got a decent camera.

I lent my son my camera for the weekend but I wanted to give this PAD a try so I dusted off my pocket Olympus and looked around for a suitable subject. The photo was not too good as I have no real idea how to use this camera, but I had a bit of fun in Photoshop. No cruel jokes about inflatable ladies, please, it is my wife's dressmaking mannequin - at least that is my story.

Hi Peter: This looks like it will be a great place to get away and do some work, all quiet and peaceful with just the sound of the horses munching away on hay down below. I'm really looking forward to seeing the progress. Try not too make too much noise though, so as not to disturb Willy and friends down below.

    Wendy
