Little and Large

Some birds can fill the frame and some don't come near it.
The Wren seemed to be sunbathing and not the least interested in me.
The Little Grebe is a bird I have not seen before, now know they are fairly common.

Very nice set of images; you may consider trimming away unwanted parts of second image to bring the little bird appear closer

Yes, a slight crop from the left side and top would concentrate better on the wren without losing the context of this scene.

Well done with the Little Grebe. They always keep their distance from me.

Hi Gary I like #1 and #3. IMO reducing the highlights a bit might help both images.

I had already cropped the original so I was unsure of cropping anymore.

The Little Grebes are very skittish, as soon as they spot you they dive under the water.

#1 and 3 for me, 1 for the contrast with the black shadows, and as Binnur maybe you should reduce the highlights,
and 3 for the light in his eye.

A nice set. The Little Grebe grew on me. They do tend to pop up (literally) when you are not expecting them.

Hi Gary I don't know what your shooting conditions were. So I can only make a guess about the highlights. It is probably related to the strength of light when you shot those images. As I can see better from the wren image that the image was most probably shot at day time when the light is harsh. So, it might be a good idea to shoot early in the morning or late afternoon when the light is softer.

Also , I think you already use continuous shooting mode for the moving objects. So, why not trying some bracketed shots to obtain different exposures to choose the best pose and exposure

By the way, I'm not a bird shooter and bird shooters might give better advice than me

Wrens are a small common bird but rarely stay still long enough to obtain focus. I have, eventually, managed a couple of decent images but that is from a huge pile of blurred discards.

The cropped version is better. Maybe you could slightly and selectively tone down the reed highlights but this isn't a serious issue.

I got a few shots of the Little Grebes, they are completely unpredictable.

It was mid-day when I took the Wren . This could be my problem, shooting at the wrong time of day.
