War Memorial Window, Dublin, Ireland
I spent last week with family in Ireland, and spent some time tracking down and photographing Stained Glass by an Irish artist, Harry Clarke probably the greatest stained glass artist in Ireland in the first half of the 2oth century. This glass is ‘early‘ work,
The 4 light window is a war memorial commissioned in 1919 by parishioners of the Scots and Prebyterian Church of Clontarf, Dublin. It was to commemorate their relatives who had been killed in the First World War.
The coats of arms, left to right in the lower panels commemorate:-
1) Australian Commonwealth Military Forces 2) The Royal Munsters (Ireland)
3) 13th London Regiment (UK) 4) North Irish Horse
5 ) Connaught Rangers (Ireland) 6) West Yorkshire Regiment (UK)
7) Royal Dublin Fusiliers (Ireland) 8) Royal Air Force (UK)
The names of the individual parishioners who lost their lives are listed across the bottom panels.
