    Rot and rust

At long last managed to get out and about with the camera. Took a few shots of an old sheep shed, and these are a crop and the mono conversion of a detail.

    C&C welcome.

Nice use of two different kinds of material in the same image. If you're familiar with Local Contrast Enhancement (a variation of sharpening), try applying it to enhance the texture in both the wood and the metal.

The top part of the colour pic has an abstract effect. It reminds me of the surface of Jupiter. Very effective.

    Thanks Mike.

These were created using SilverEfex Pro and ColorEfex Pro. The Nik suite is a fairly recent acquisition and I still have a bit to go with familiarisation, particularly with ColorEfex. At this stage, I consistently find it too easy to overdo the various tweaks, ending up with shadows or highlights that trigger exposure warnings when the edited image is back in Capture One, as was the case with the colour version here.

A good one, Bill! When you use Nik, go to Viveza first. It is kind of like Camera Raw where you can adjust brightness and shadows and the like. My favourite there is warmth and structure and of course shadow. Then I go to either Silver Efex or Color Efex where I can do a little bit more...
    Cheers.

    Thanks Izzie.

I suppose it's partly a matter of taste, partly of habit in workflow, but I tried Viveza and don't really like it/didn't find it added anything to what I do routinely with my existing software. The other components - now that's a different story
